MidShore STEM Camp, a “leadership laboratory,” celebrated its 10th Anniversary this summer. On June 26, 2026, rising high school junior Max Rene interviewed Hunter Gilroy regarding his role as the Easton STEM Camp’s SENIOR STEM LEADER (aka student director).
In this video, rising senior Hunter highlights how STEM Camp promotes character and leadership development. With a career in finance in mind, Hunter is applying to Penn/Wharton, Princeton, and Notre Dame this fall.
The strength of our community lies in the future generations we raise. Summer STEM Camp Week focuses on elementary school students (“munchkins”). We believe it’s important to provide a “leg up” for these children to get them on the right track on their academic journey by sharing science experiences, demonstrating that every individual can achieve success through hard work and determination, and providing an enjoyable learning environment. Our STEM LEADERS act as role models and teachers, laying the foundations for character development and intellectual growth.
While STEM Camp primarily focuses on munchkins, it also functions as a ten-month leadership development experience for all-volunteer STEM LEADERS (middle/high school students). The camp is planned, budgeted, and conducted by STEM LEADERS who will exercise important lessons of accountability, responsibility, leadership, not-for-self community service, and work ethic. Given minimal adult interference, it challenges STEM LEADERS to create a program that will make a positive impact on each child’s development.
During recent years, MidShore STEM Camp has expanded from its original site (St. Michaels) to serving three sites: St. Michaels, Easton, and Denton.

Wow! What an awesome reminder to all of us what leadership means, and for a program like this that nurtures leadership in “the next generation.” Feels good to leave our Country in the hands of young adults like Hunter and all those who have led before him.
