For Eastern Shore singer-songwriter Kat Parsons, returning to the recording studio after 13 years is less a comeback than another chapter in a life where music has always been present.
Born into a musical family, Parsons went on to tour throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, sharing stages with artists including Sara Bareilles and Billy Corgan. But experiences she had while touring also drew her toward work combating human trafficking and eventually to graduate study in social work. Today, she is a couples therapist, wife, and mother of three living on the Eastern Shore.
Now Parsons has returned to recording with The Sweetness Is Now, a four-song EP shaped by parenthood, love, loss, and family life. In her conversation with the Spy, she talks about growing up surrounded by music, the unexpected turns her career has taken, and why songwriting and therapy share something important for her: the chance to connect with another person.
This video is approximately four minutes in length.
