The Spy and the Avalon Foundation are asking Talbot County residents to take a few minutes to participate in our third annual Talbot County Top Issues survey.
The survey takes about five minutes and asks readers to weigh in on the issues they believe deserve the most attention from county leaders, from growth and housing to schools, taxes, public safety, the environment, and other community concerns.
The results will help shape the questions we ask candidates for Talbot County Council at the Avalon-Spy Town Hall on Tuesday, October 6, at 6 p.m. at the Avalon Theatre in Easton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and admission is free.
We also plan to share the survey results with the community before the Town Hall, giving readers a clearer picture of which issues are rising to the top across Talbot County.
The goal is simple: make sure the Town Hall conversation reflects the concerns of the people who live and work here.
Please take five minutes to complete the poll and help us set the agenda for the evening.

With regard to Question 13, I feel strongly that a candidate’s party affiliation holds no place in any local election and should not be revealed. This is aka Non-Partisan Elections. What comes to mind are Town Councils, the County Council and the School Board. This would require a candidate to clearly lay out his/her position on important local issues without relying on one’s party affiliation to influence a voter, while at the same time requiring voters to vote on the issues, not for the party! It should not matter a scintilla to a voter to which party a candidate subscribes. And, while we’re at it, let’s dispose of all political signage, both on private and public property, most especially at the polling sites. Political signs are ugly, and an environmental nightmare. I never met one person whose vote was influenced or swayed by them, have you?
