Talbot County has a growing senior population, but older residents with limited incomes may find safe, affordable housing increasingly difficult to find.
In our Spy interview, Nancy Andrew and Jennifer Marchi of the Talbot County Senior Citizens Task Force discuss what the group has learned about senior homelessness and housing insecurity. Among the concerns are long waiting lists for affordable senior housing, very limited options when an older resident suddenly loses a place to live, and a complicated network of services that can be difficult to navigate.
The task force has identified several possible responses, including a feasibility study for a year-round, low-barrier shelter, better coordination of existing services, and development of more affordable senior housing. The larger goal is to create a range of housing options that allow Talbot County residents to remain safely housed as they age.
