As we approach the upcoming election, I’m calling on my fellow candidates and neighbors across Talbot County to become deeply engaged in the race for the County Council. Local government directly shapes our daily lives and determines the trajectory of our community for generations. We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines. We must collectively advocate for a vision of SMART Growth—strategic development that positively impacts Talbot County while protecting the historic character and rural beauty we all cherish.
To me, true SMART Growth means making sure our infrastructure is never an afterthought. We must require that new developments provide sufficient upfront investment to cover their full impact on our roads, utilities, and emergency services. At the same time, we must confront a critical shortage of attainably priced housing. Our first responders, teachers, and moderate-income working families are being priced out of the very communities they serve. Together, we can—and will—create these housing opportunities while fiercely preserving our established neighborhoods and protecting our natural environment and rural landscape.
I’m running for County Council because I’ve spent my entire life gaining the exact, practical experience needed to tackle these complex challenges. As a 20-year volunteer firefighter and former correctional officer, I know what it takes to support public safety from the ground up. Having served multiple terms as President of the St. Michaels Town Commissioners and as Vice President of the Maryland Municipal League, I deeply understand municipal governance and how to manage growth effectively.
My years as a state housing inspector for the Maryland Department of Housing gave me hands-on, real-world experience resolving housing issues for working families. Today, I continue that commitment to our region as Chair of the Eastern Shore Leadership Board and Chair of the St. Michaels Waterways Committee, working to keep our local communities resilient, safe, and forward-thinking.
Let’s raise the bar for this election. I’m asking every voter to review each Council candidate’s record, ask tough questions, and demand balanced, experienced leadership. I have dedicated my life to public service, and I’m ready to bring my background in municipal government, housing policy, and public safety to the Talbot County Council to work for you.
Mike Bibb (Candidate for Talbot County Council)

Thank you, Mike. Everyone wants smart growth, but not everyone knows what it means. The two Republicans on the current Council, who are also running for reelection, think smart grown means dumping all costs onto the tax payers of Talbot County rather than developers. They tried to gave developers a waiver for any of the pesky fees that cover county expenses so the developers can make more of a profit.
You have the experience to balance everyone’s interests. That’s why people should vote for you. And for the rest of the Democrats who care more about the quality of life in Talbot than they care about maximizing the wealth of developers, many of whom are out of state.
A concise position statement. Thank you!
I will be voting for you soon!
Mike, you have the experience, the ideas, the dedication and the ability to be an excellent county council member. You are my candidate.
You are so right we cannot sit on the sidelines. The Talbot County Council guides what we can and cannot do. They form the guidelines for us. It is so so important and you will do it well!
Thank you for the refreshing resume.
Leadership matters.
You’re our guy.
