Letter to Editor: Democratic Party Wasting Money on Ads

June 10, 2012 by Dave Wheelan

Share

I contribute something monthly to support the Democratic party and am tired of the begging letters and emails I get each day. The party could save some of this money they are asking me for by checking their files, thus saving on postage and paper

Nobody ever mentions in the desperate, begging messages I get what these millions are for. Are voters really persuaded by the slick advertisements they see on television? I am not.

I would like to hear serious debates between candidates or their surrogates, on an important issue of the day, which I do not feel is gay marriage.

Americans of both parties need to have their opinions discussed intelligently. We pay taxes to have our representatives work hard to solve the problems of unemployment and job creation, rising health care costs, global warming. Foreign policy should not be a partisan issue.

Often on television you see a Senator or Representative making a speech, to a sea of empty seats. Where are the members who should be listening to him? .

In my opinion the networks should be stopped from accepting huge amounts of money in order to run these political ads. It seems to me they weaken their role of reporting the news impartially. Think what $60 million or so could do to help those suffering from unemployment, or toward building crumbling roads and bridges?

I plan to do my best to support the President, our Maryland Senators, and to defeat Representative Harris.

Good luck to the Country in November.
