Sadly, some very good things do indeed to come to an end at some point. One of those extraordinary things for Talbot County has been the infrequent productions of the St. Michaels Road roadside theatre company. For years the cast of the surprisingly witty mannequins has delighted drivers on Route 33 with their whimsical themes ranging from presidential visits to coronavirus attacks.
But with the sale of the Blair family estate recently, a final curtain call is taking place.
The Spy captured some of these moments, and a few from the past, to honor its cast and crew as we say farewell.

So sorry to see them go. They contributed humor and some thought to the community.

A truly generous, and ever-clever family with one of the most beautifully designed houses and properties in our area. They could have kept it all to themselves and not involved the community in any way—not hosted Christmas and Spring tours, and certainly not devoted the time, effort, creativity and expense of the most stunning roadside tableaux I have seen anywhere! Never mundane; always ranging from hysterically funny to deeply thought-provoking, some with weekly updates to the saga du jour. They were ahead of our times with Tom’s thoughts displayed in his book Poorer Richard’s America…. We wish them well and hope they depart knowing they will be missed and have been appreciated for sharing their presence vicariously with so many of us.

I will very much miss this whimsical, brilliant, and themed display. I met Mrs. Blair a couple years back up at her home and told her how much I appreciated she and her husband’s sense of humor and in between the lines messages they incorporated in their presentations. She was most sincere and thanked me for coming up their lane to express my feelings. She said then that the State Police had stopped by their home to express their concerns about the safety of the people driving by and stopping to view and take photos of their displays. And to suggest that they temper down the nessages and displays if possible or stop completely. There have been NO accidents or incidents on of off Rt.33 during the period of time that the Blairs have enriched our lives here in Talbot Co.by their wonderful productions or as stated theatre. Again I want to thank the Blairs and their staff for this display and wish them well in their next adventure. God’s speed and many happy times in the future. Sincerely John W. In I Cor. 13 (the love chapter) Paul tell us that there are 9 ingredients to love–two of which are kindness and unselfishness. In the years they have been with us, Tom and Alice Blair have showered us with both of these qualities. They have unselfishly used their property on St. Michaels road to kindly share with us displays of the various seasons and important times for our community and country. Bless them for their kindness and generosity. They shall be missed.

The new owners will certainly have some big shoes to fill. While no one can replace the Blairs it sure would be nice to see if the new owners are willing to keep the tradition alive.

To the Blairs, we must say THANK YOU so much for your thoughtfulness and for creating and sharing all those very special moments over the years. I am sure that many of us have our favorites. My number one favorite is the replica of a National Memorial Cemetery that looked exactly like a part of Arlington that I used to visit often. Number two is the Saga Of The Twins. Let me assure you that everytime I pass by the Blair property I will always be thinking of the Blairs and of those moments they shared with us all. My their life be filled with rainbows!

My husband and I have been trying for a long time to meet the owner. We live in Hudson and decorate the end of our lane for every season. We have been looking for a manaquen and wondered if they had one to sell.

I almost cried when I saw the farewell. I am really going to miss this.

What joy this family has brought .They had no need for recognition, just a true gift. They didn’t feel every act of generosity or a business deal required their name stamped on everything they touched.I hope their life beyond the River House is full of goid health and continued happiness!

Your amazing decorating style will truly be missed hope it rubs off on the new owners.

OH how we enjoyed these marvelous displays over the years. Many thanks to the Blair family for their contributions to the less serious side of life and their keen sense of how to make each season a memorable event for all.
