“The Alzheimer’s Association’s goal is to provide resources and information to the community, and the library is the perfect setting,” says Susan Weller, Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Chapter community outreach coordinator. “We know the path to early detection is knowing the warning signs when they first appear. Our mission is raising awareness.”
There are more than 6 million U.S. residents living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia, and more than 110,000 are Marylanders. Maryland has 242,000 caregivers, who provide an estimated 371,000,000 hours of unpaid care valued at $6.810,000,000. Alzheimer’s is the nation’s sixth leading cause of death, killing more people annually than breast cancer and prostate cancer COMBINED.
