The Market at Dover Station is an outstanding destination this October! New merchants have launched at The Market, events and activities are engaging, and the fine art beckons.
In The Market’s Gallery at Dover Station, a First Friday reception celebrates the continuing St Michaels Art League’s exhibition of members’ works, viewable and for sale through October.
Several small businesses and artists at The Market at Dover Station of note in October include the following:
Jeweler Regen Linn of Alloyed Earth Jewelry is hosting several pop-ups at Dover Station on Saturday October 4, and Waterfowl Weekend November 15 and 16. Come try her permanent jewelry, where a bracelet or necklace is custom fitted to the wearer and permanently attached by carefully welding the ends together without a clasp, creating a continuous and secure piece. Specializing in small batch production handmade artisan jewelry in sterling silver and gold with gemstones, Linn says, “What began as a hobby in high school over 30 years ago quickly became my life’s work–creating meaningful pieces that celebrate self-expression and empowerment.”
In her Oxford, Maryland studio overlooking the Tred Avon River, fiber artist Jean Konopacz creates beautiful one-of-a-kind quilts and smaller quilted gifts. With her long arm sewing machine, using a free motion technique, she makes drawings on fabric with thread. “I get all my fabrics from traveling to the South of France, the Netherlands, Australia and Japan. I am inspired by the fabric collection in my closet stash, and work from there.”
John Wooters of Easton, Maryland, is the creative force behind East of the Bay Woodworking. With his tools, router, lathe and laser engraver, he crafts a variety of small wood products that make great gifts, including pens, bottle openers, ice cream and coffee scoops, letter openers and pizza cutters. “I started woodworking as a hobby many years back and quickly fell in love with the art and functionality of it.”
Oil painter Arlene Beebe says, “I’m always filled with wonder as I go through each day– a simple barn touched with early morning sun, the way an arrangement of flowers glows with color, a ‘wow’ moment experienced on vacation. That emotional pull is what I try to capture in my paintings. If I’m successful, sharing them is just natural.” Beebe lives in St Michaels where she maintains a studio.
After forty years as an architect, Annapolis resident William Sutton started painting landscapes and seascapes in watercolor and in acrylic on canvas. “I draw my inspiration from Maryland’s Eastern Shore landscape, and from views of the iconic Chesapeake Bay Log Canoes racing in the waters of Oxford, St. Michaels, Cambridge, and the Chester River.”
Cindy Slaughter from Towson, Maryland, started making hand poured candles in antique and vintage glass containers to create gifts for friends and family. That was the spark that started her business, Vessels by Cindy. Slaughter says, “I have a strict rule that everything needs to have a purpose and not just collect dust. I discovered that when I pour soy wax into these beautiful old glass containers, they can have a continuous life. When the candle is finished, that vessel can be used again as either another candle or a beautiful addition to your everyday tableware.”
Olive and Oak is a delightful celebration of all things French country. Three friends from Easton have come together to create this shop specializing in timeless French and English country furniture and décor, bringing the charm of the European countryside into the heart of the Eastern Shore. This beautifully curated collection of furnishings and accents captures the warmth, elegance, and rustic simplicity that define country living. From heirloom quality furniture to thoughtfully chosen home accessories, Olive and Oak is sure to inspire both comfort and beauty in every home.
