December 7, 2018 by Saints Peter & Paul Schools

(L-R): Coach Chris Thompson, Fred Bradbury, and Coach Alex Pool

Saints Peter & Paul High School would like to congratulate the Men’s Cross Country team for their outstanding performance at the recent MIAA Championships at McDaniel College. Pacing the team was Senior Frederick Bradbury who placed 7th in the MIAA C Conference, completing the 5K in 18:37 on what was one of the more difficult courses in recent years.  A four-year varsity letter winner and two-time captain, Fred is the first Sabre runner to ever place at the MIAAs and was the first Sabre to be named to the All MIAA Cross Country Team.

Coach Alex Pool commented on Fred’s contribution to the program.  “Fred has been an integral part of the XC team this year. Coach Thompson and I are proud of Fred’s leadership and motivation toward the team.  As the captain this year, Fred has held the team to a high standard and has built a running culture for our Saints Peter and Paul community.  We are very proud of his achievements!”

Each player had their own individual skills that made them an asset to the team, both on and off the field, which contributed to them being so important to this team. Spotlight on the New Sabres Director of Athletics

October 25, 2018 by Saints Peter & Paul Schools

Fall sports are heading into the home stretch and playoffs, planning for winter and spring athletic seasons is well underway, and Pat Tracy has hit the ground running and not stopped since his hire in August as the new Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Varsity Lacrosse Coach for Saints Peter & Paul. Let’s meet the AD!

Before starting his new gig as Sabres AD, Pat was most recently at High Point University, where he served as Associate Head Lacrosse Coach for the past seven years.  During his tenure, he helped build the university’s first Division I men’s lacrosse program, which has since won three conference championships, competed in the NCAA tournament, and bested traditional lacrosse Division I powerhouse teams. Tracy considers his most impactful accomplishment to be those off the field, citing his team’s tremendous success in the classroom and community, including mentoring over 100 locally and nationally recognized scholar athletes.

Tracy began his career as a lacrosse coach at Goucher College, and has also held coaching positions at Dartmouth College and the University of Maryland – Baltimore County. “I am proud to be the Director of Athletics at Saints Peter & Paul School. There is such a rich tradition of excellence at SSPP, not only in athletics but in the classroom and community. I look forward to building upon that tradition and setting a new standard of excellence for the athletic department. We want our student-athletes to stand out for all the right reasons, and have the knowledge and values that will allow them to be successful in everything they do in life.”

High School Principal James Nemeth commented, “We are thrilled to have Pat join the Saints Peter & Paul community as the Director of Athletics. Pat’s attention to detail, passion for athletics, his coaching and professional background, and his organizational and communication skills will be a huge asset in taking the Sabres athletic program to the next level!”

Peter and Paul—St. Vincent de Paul Club received Award Certificates as members of the Youth ministry of the St. Vincent de Paul Society Conference in Easton, MD during the 2017-2018 school year.  Awards were presented by Lisa Morrell, leader of the SSPP-SVdP Club and assisted by Paula Broll.  Eight Vincentians of the Conference’s leadership team attended the award ceremony and personally thanked and congratulated each student for their service to help those in need in Talbot County.

The SSPP-SVdP Club is comprised of Middle School students from Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Easton, MD.  The awards signify the achievement of the students toward the three essential elements of the SVdP Society—Spirituality, Friendliness and Service.  Twice a month, the students support the Conference’s Food Pantry and Thrift Center ministries on Canvasback Drive.  During monthly SSPP-SVdP Club meetings, the students offer prayers for the needy and prepare crafts and gifts for clients.

Sabres Support Tennessee Wildfire Relief

January 22, 2017 by Saints Peter & Paul Schools

Juniors Michael Morrell and Connor LeMire

Late last year, communities in East Tennessee were devastated by wildfires that swept through the Smoky Mountain region, causing loss of life, injury, and significant damage. In response to those in need, the Student Government Association of Saints Peter and Paul High School immediately organized a collection drive to help those in Tennessee displaced from their homes and jobs as winter set in and the Christmas season neared.

Donated goods, including clothing, bedding, hygienic products, food, and pet care items poured in to SSPP. With the help of H & M Bay, a shipping company out of Federalsburg, the SSPP community was able to help fill two tractor trailers that arrived at a shelter in Knoxville, Tennessee, prior to Christmas.

SGA Advisor and Social Studies teacher Chad Dean, who was married in Gatlinburg, Tennessee at a chapel that was destroyed by the recent fires, was ecstatic at the response as his classroom overflowed with more than 150 containers of donations. Mr. Dean and his family spent their Christmas break volunteering in the Smoky Mountains, assisting with relief and cleanup efforts there.

SSPP students Provide Service to Others

December 23, 2016 by Saints Peter & Paul Schools

screen-shot-2016-12-23-at-8-45-16-amMiddle School student members of the St. Vincent de Paul Club at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Easton participated in a “Commissioning Ceremony” on December 16 held in the school cafeteria.

SVdP President Alex Handy and Spiritual Advisor Ron Virostek presented SVdP Youth pins to 21 recent club members and 17 Certificates of Appreciation to returning members. The students promised to share in the SVdP mission to respect the dignity of each person by being kind and compassionate, especially to all those who are poor and suffering.

At their meetings, Club members pack items for those in need in Talbot County. They also volunteer at the SVdP Food Pantry, where they pack grocery bags and help carry packages for those who need assistance getting to their cars.

“You serve others in many ways,” Virostek told the students. “Some people just need a smile from you to help brighten their day.”
