Bluegrass alert ! Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys roll into town Friday for a night of pickin’ heaven at the Avalon Theatre. The 84 year old is still going strong, performing over 150 dates a year. Rolling Stone calls him, “A master performer without
an expiration date. . . .”
We’re crossing the county line on Saturday to experience a real slice of Dorchester culture at the National Outdoor Show in Church Creek, (about 20 miles outside of Cambridge). Although there are activities scheduled all day, the real action begins around 7pm, with competitions for muskrat and nutria skinning, corn shelling, oyster shucking, pole skinning, log sawing…. Bring an appetite, there will be plenty of oysters, crabs, burgers and of course….muskrat.
Sunday is Oscar Night. You can of course stay home and watch it on your wide screen TV, but how about dressing like a star and attending the first Chesapeake Film Festival Oscar Benefit Gala at the Avalon Theatre ? The event will stream the 84th Academy Awards pre-show and awards. Local hors d’oeuvres prepared by 3 of Talbot’s favorite chefs, wine, and dessert will be served.

Saturday, February 26 – 10:30 am – ?: National Outdoor Show Vendors, food and exhibits. Doors open 10:30 am and Little Miss Outdoors pageant begins at 11:30 am. This event was featured in a PBS documentary, Muskrat Lovely. Event events begin at 7 pm. Admission fee is $6 for adults, $3 children 4-12 years, under 4 free.
