Robert Higham will be the speaker for the October 2, 2017 Brown Bag lunch at the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library at noon. Robert has recently published a book entitled “Vehicles and the Mind of Man” and he will present a ‘pictorial travelogue’ beginning with the ‘Birth Certificate of the Automobile’ and how the automobile changed people’s lifestyles forever. Highlights include: The first hybrid car in 1900, Winged Cleshicles, Woodies, and today’s equivalent, as well as how cars embraced emancipation and freedom of expression for women.
Robert has spent the majority of his working years running his own publishing company. He has found some time to develop his hobby: ‘Playing with Cars’ as his wife describes it. Playing with cars includes research, re-building, driving and writing about them—and naturally talking to others who share his interest. Robert’s fascination with vehicles began at the age of 12 when he used to steer (not drive!) his father’s 1930 Morris Eight on the way to boarding school. For many years Robert has enjoyed taking part in the ’London to Brighton Veteran Car Run’; the Historic Commercial Vehicle Run’ and the Veteran Motor Cycle Run’.
The Brown Bag Lunch is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Bring lunch and enjoy coffee and dessert provided by the library. For more information check the library website at www.tcfl.org or call (410) 745-5877.
