Celebrating its 5th anniversary season, Carpe Diem Arts joins forces again with the Talbot County Senior Center in presenting the popular free lunchtime concert series at Brookletts Place in Easton (400 Brookletts Ave). The performances are scheduled on the Second Tuesdays of the month, January through May of 2020. Mark your calendars for a stellar winter-spring line-up. (See list below.)
Kicking off the 2020 series on Tuesday, January 14 will be Jake Blount, an award-winning fiddler, banjoist, singer and scholar based in the D.C. area. Jake has studied with modern masters of old-time music, including Bruce Molsky, Judy Hyman, Rhiannon Giddens and Hubby Jenkins of the GRAMMY-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops. In 2017 he received his B.A. in Ethnomusicology from Hamilton College and released his debut EP, “Reparations,” with acclaimed fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves. He has since shared his music and research at the Smithsonian, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and numerous other museums, colleges and universities. He recently released a CD and toured Scandinavia with the Moose Whisperers, his decorated old-time string band, and opened several shows for MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient Rhiannon Giddens.
Presented on the Second Tuesdays, September through May, 12:15-1:00pm the Brookletts lunchtime concerts are free and open to the public – and are made possible by the generous support of the Talbot County Arts Council with revenues provided by the Maryland State Arts Council, the Dock Street Foundation, the Artistic Insights Fund of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, Upper Shore Aging, and by individual contributions to Carpe Diem Arts and Brookletts Place.
Lunch is available at 12 noon for $2.75 with reservations 10 days in advance.
