Carpe Diem Arts will present its next “Music in the Gallery” concert on Sunday, May 20 at 5:00pm, a one-hour performance followed by a wine and cheese reception at the Contemporary Tapestry Gallery, 5592 Poplar Lane, Royal Oak, MD near the Bellevue landing of the Oxford ferry.
Celebrating their brand new recording, “A Little Closer” — a snapshot of the dynamic duo Lena Seikaly (vocals) and Steve Herberman (guitar), exploring favorites from their respective repertoires from the 1920s and ’30s through the hard bop and bossa nova eras. LENA SEIKALY is a fresh voice on the national jazz scene from Washington, D.C. Named “one of Washington’s preeminent jazz singers” and “brightest voices in jazz” (The Washington Post), as well as a “major league young talent in jazz” by Duke Ellington’s biographer, Dr. John Hasse, Lena is already making her mark as both a revivalist of traditional jazz vocals, as well as an innovator in contemporary vocal jazz styles. Lena has been featured at the Monty Alexander Jazz Festival and as part of Carpe Diem’s community concerts.
Tickets are $22 for adults, $7 for students and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com. A limited number of free tickets are available in exchange for volunteer hours.
