Carpe Diem Arts: Shannon Dunne & Alex Boatright with Josh Dukes


Carpe Diem Arts presents “Erin Go Braugh! A Celebration of Irish Music and Dance.”

Please join us for a delightful taste of Ireland in a one-hour celebration of St. Patrick’s Day featuring dancer-musician Shannon Dunne and cellist Alex Boatright with special guest guitarist Josh Dukes. Experience old-style sean nós dancing, singing, and the sounds of traditional instruments. The event will be on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 5:00 p.m, at Contemporary Tapestry Studio & Gallery, 5592 Poplar Lane, Royal Oak (near the Bellevue landing of the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry).

shannon dunne, alex boatright, josh dukesWidely renowned for her percussive dancing and concertina playing, Shannon Dunne has performed at theaters and festivals all over North America and Ireland. She is the founder/director of Camp Shenanigans, a performing arts program for children on Capitol Hill, and Shannon Dunne Dance, a multi-generational sean nós dance group dedicated to preserving the steps and values of the dance form.

Cellist Alex Boatright is a multiple All-Ireland medalist and is also one of the premier concertina and harp players in the United States. She has performed as a soloist with the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra and in several string quartets and orchestras in the D.C. metro area.

Josh Dukes is an All-Ireland champion accompanist and a highly sought after music teacher in the Baltimore/D.C. area. A multi-instrumentalist whose talents embrace the ceili drums, guitar, bouzouki, bodhran, flute, and tin whistle, Josh has established a reputation for providing sensitive, tasteful support for traditional Irish music.

After the concert, there will be a meet-the-artist reception and refreshments. Audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful tapestries on display in Ulrika Leander’s gallery.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Talbot County Arts Council, with revenues provided by the Maryland State Arts Council.
