The Talbot County Visual Arts Center is sponsoring a themed March show and sale titled “Celebrate Red” at the Church Alley Gallery, 32-34 S. Washington Street, Easton MD 21601 from Friday March 1 to Friday March 29th. Opening reception is First Friday, March 1, 5-7pm.
The color “RED” signifies emotion, love, energy, passion, heat, fire, violence and anger and has been utilized by artists for centuries to add a singular dramatic “attention getting” effect or a general mood to a work of art.
In some Asian cultures, this color is a symbol of peace as brides wear red. The intensity of the color “Red”, whether the primary focus or in contrast to other colors can be an exciting artistic challenge for any artist!
The use of “Red” can be quiet or bold but must contribute a “special something” to the work. In simple terms, the piece would not be a successful art work without it. The show will be judged and the following prizes awarded: Best of Show, First Place, Second Place, Third Place and 3 Honorable Mentions. Judge will be announced at a later date.
Open to all Eastern Shore artists in all mediums. 2 dimensional works are limited to 18”x24”.
3 dimensional works must be smaller and are accepted on a first come first serve basis.
Hanging fee for 2 works is $15. Work drop off is 3-5 pm at the Church Alley Gallery on Wednesday, February 27th and the morning of Thursday, February 28th from 9 am to 12.
Entry form for show and submission fee /guidelines will be posted on the arts center website, here.
The Talbot County Visual Arts Center’s programs are supported in part by Talbot County Arts Council and The Maryland State Arts Council.
