Let’s Talk About Your Favorite Place …
We all have our favorite or special places – a beach, hidden reading nook, a wide porch looking out over a mountain range. Some of our favorite places aren’t even physical but social gatherings like Thanksgiving, a book club, or even a classroom. Join Chesapeake Forum instructor Charles Yonkers, J.D., on Friday, May 17th for “A Sense of Place: Values and Identity,” a wide-ranging discussion of how our sense of place contributes to our understanding of the world around us.
This course is a discussion and exploration of our perceived special places. It celebrates the individuality and mutability of our places and times. Readings will be suggested. Participation is a requirement. Participants in past courses as well as newcomers are welcome.
One of the benefits of time is a growing opportunity to examine our experiences for what they offer in terms of self-understanding. When we think of it again or for the first time, our senses of place change and grow and offer insights of values and identity. Recognizing the power and importance of different kinds of “places” in our lives is an excellent tool for reflection and insight, writing, sharing, and just enjoying life.
Yonkers has been teaching this course in one form or another since 2011. He has amassed a passionate following at Chesapeake Forum because of his scholarship and ability to facilitate discussions. “Charlie Yonkers is an outstanding instructor in every way,” said one former student. “He is truly a gentleman and a scholar.”
A Sense of Place: Values and Identity is three sessions, Friday, May 17th, 24th, and 31st from 10 – 11:30 AM. ZOOM (no recording). $40.000. To register, visit https://chesapeakeforum.org.
