Lisa Marie Ghezzi, an avid beekeeper since she set up her aviary in 2011, will be the featured speaker at the February 13th meeting of the Chesapeake Bay Herb Society at 6:00 p.m. at the parish hall of Christ Church in Easton. Lisa will discuss ‘Worker Honeybee Roles’. Lisa set up her apiary in 2011 and has been captivated by bees ever since. A worker honeybee serves in multiple roles throughout her life. This is influenced by age, genetics and interactions with other bees in the colony. Learn about the fascinating roles worker bees take on essential to the wellbeing of the superorganism, the honeybee colony, and what you can do to promote honeybee health.
Since moving to Easton full time in 2004, Mrs. Ghezzi has worked with organizations to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay. She has been a Talbot County Master Gardener for 16 years, is “Bay-Wise” certified and co-leads the Bay-Wise program. Mrs. Ghezzi has spearheaded the Bay Street Habitat Restoration and Invasive Plant Removal Project, and authored “From My Backyard to Our Bay” for Talbot and Dorchester counties, a resource to help homeowners make a personal contribution to the environment. She is President of the Board of the Old-Growth Forest Network, a national organization with a mission to preserve a forest in the 2,370 counties across the nation that can sustain a forest. She is active with Wye River Beekeepers and Maryland DNR’s Diamondback Terrapin Working Group. She has served as Chair of the Friends of Easton Point Park.
The evening will begin with a pot luck supper featuring Valentine’s Day Family Favorites, featuring Vanilla, Poppy Seeds, Paprika and Marjoram, followed by a short business meeting. The informative program will conclude the evening.
