Conference to Showcase Water Quality Restoration Efforts in the Choptank Watershed


A one day conference focusing on the state of the Choptank River and best management practices underway to improve water quality is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the Chesapeake College’s Todd Theater.

ChoptankmapThe event which is sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology, Maryland Grain Producers, and the University of Maryland Extension will provide sessions on the current state of the river; projects and research that are occurring in the watershed to address the river’s water quality issues; and current and future practices that the agricultural community can employ to mitigate impacts to water quality.

Presenters include representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Geological Service, Maryland Departments of Agriculture and Environment; Caroline County and City of Cambridge, Mid-Shore Riverkeeper Conservancy, Chesapeake Conservancy, Delmarva Land and Litter Challenge, University of Maryland Extension, Center for Environmental Science at Horn Point and Chesapeake Biological Lab as well as representatives from the agricultural community who are implementing best management practices.

Participants will obtain a greater knowledge of water quality issues and practices that are being implemented in the Choptank River Watershed that may be applicable to their local watershed.
