It seems to me this and other reports on the present-day covid experience are incomplete unless they indicate the proportion of deaths of people who are not vaccinated. From the various interviews I see on TV and newspaper reports I read, it seems clear that most of the present deaths are of people who are not vaccinated.
This observation is not to suggest that such deaths are their own fault, but to highlight for those still unvaccinated how important it is for themselves (and for their families and the community they may be infecting) that they get the shots.

I totally agree that vaccination status would be a valuable metric. That, and age distribution of new cases.

I am glad that the Spy has renewed its efforts to provide information about COVID in our community. There has been an unfortunate lack of such information during the omicron onslaught. It remains my impression that the new case and positivity percentages may not include results of home testing.

Agree with this observation. It is getting more difficult to track actual results given the many options for testing. However, the basic truth remains that a virus can’t exist without a host. Therefore, the more people that are fully vaccinated/boosted, the less likely there will be continued transmission.

I too thank Spy for providing Covid information … and glad ‘Snapshot’ is honest about local death rates but wondering why the ‘dashboard’ swaps out the (dismal) 26.76 ‘testing positivity rate’ for the ‘total deaths’ they provide for Maryland and US. Agree there should be mention of % of cases due in unvacinated individuals … and also information on infectivity rates for different groups/age ranges.
A good alternative to searching for news articles is subscribing to the New York Times daily email ‘Your Coronavirus Tracker’ which provides a detailed personalized daily Covid report for locations which you have specified (and which you are free to edit at any time).
Try this link … https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/covid-cases-deaths-tracker.html . A NYT subscription is required for this feature, but a year’s subscription (perhaps a limited holiday offer?) has recently been advertised for $9.98 per YEAR.
