Dogs of Easton Celebrate: Easton Dog Park Opens January 18

The Town of Easton is excited to announce the opening of the Easton Dog Park located off of Brewer’s Lane near Harrison Street. A ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the facility will be held at the park on Thursday, January 18th at 10am. Mayor Megan Cook, Town Manager Don Richardson, and Town Engineer Rick VanEmburgh will be among the Town officials to attend the event and speak on the development of this exciting project.

We hope that anyone interested in the dog park, as well as their four-legged friends, are able to join us for the event. A plentiful amount of doggy treats will be on hand for those attending.

The park now occupies a spot on a long-vacant plot of land off of Brewers Lane. Mayor Megan Cook said, “It is really great to be able to utilize this space in such a meaningful way. Dog owners will have a fun and safe way to take out their pups just a short walk from our downtown center.” Mayor Cook Added, “We’re certainly excited to see our furry friends (and their owners) put it to good use.”

The Easton Dog Park features several amenities that will make visitors and their dogs feel right at home. The park sports two separately closed-in areas, one for small dogs and one for large dogs, both covered in high-quality, low-maintenance synthetic turf. Each area of the park contains shaded spaces, sitting benches, watering stations, and dual gate entrances. Additionally, the park comes equipped with a public comfort station including bathrooms and a water fountain.

The dog park was a major piece of the bond project construction plan helmed by the duo of Town Engineer Rick VanEmburgh and Town Project Manager Kody Cario. They utilized bond money acquired in 2020 and helped to conceptualize the project, before working directly with Chester River Landscaping (artificial turf, fencing, and landscaping on inner areas), Willow Construction (comfort station), and Easton’s Public Works team throughout the entire construction process.

According to Project Manager Kody Cario, the park worked out even better than imagined. Cario said, “Our community has been looking forward to a dog park in our downtown area for a long time — we’re extremely proud to be able to deliver one that we think checks all the boxes.”

While the park is catered to dogs, Cario explained that there is at least one benefit for everyone. “With the addition of the public comfort station, this new facility gives a great benefit to all of our residents and visitors, not just dog-owners. It will be especially helpful during bustling downtown events,” he added.

My question is; if the dog owners do not pick up their dog poo left in my yard, who will pick it up in the dog park?

While the dog park may be a plus in the future, smart dog owners will stay away from the park & ceremony until the new dog virus is under control.

I am sorry that David Ferraris and Noah Matten did not get recognition in this article for their key early role. And I believe they lined up donated architectural designs as well? You’d think this was all the town’s idea from the write-up above. Not so: https://talbotspy.org/the-dog-guys-a-quest-for-a-easton-dog-park-with-david-ferraris-and-noah-matten/
