Don Buxton will be the speaker for the November 6, 2017 Brown Bag lunch at the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library at noon. For the past 32 years, Chesapeake Music has evolved to become a leading performing arts organization in the region. The program “Evolution of Chesapeake Music” will explore the history of jazz and classical performing Arts. Chesapeake Music comprises the Chesapeake Music Festival, the Monty Alexander Jazz Festival, and biennial International Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition YouthReach/First Strings educational program.
Mr. Buxton was the winner of numerous solo and concerto competitions while a young student growing up near Cincinnati, Ohio. He also has the distinction of winning unanimous superiors for the last seven consecutive years of his participation in the National Federation of Music Club Competitions. Mr. Buxton did his undergraduate work at Wilmington College of Ohio where he conducted several premieres of operatic productions and major orchestral works. He then continued his conducting studies at the University of Cincinnati and the Juilliard School. Mr. Buxton recently retired from the faculty of Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland and serves on numerous non-profit arts boards which have included the Talbot County Arts Council, and as a performing arts panelist on the Maryland State Arts Council.
