For the fifth time, area residents will have an opportunity to jump into the Tred Avon River, on Sunday February 9, to raise funds and awareness for Camp Sunshine – a cost free retreat on Sebago Lake in Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Over 70 Maryland families have been to the Camp recently.
This is a nonprofit, top-rated camp, and it allows Oxford to sponsor a winter event to support families in need. Dippers run head on into freezing water, or for the less inclined, put their toes in the water as ‘Chicken Dippers’ all to help children have a chance at a rest and recovery camp, especially designed to meet their needs.
Participants pledge to raise $100 to be a Dipper. Each year Oxford’s event has raised over $15,000 for Camp Sunshine, and hopes to meet that goal again this year.Miss Maryland and Miss Teen Maryland will both attend and we also expect return participation from local representatives and dignitaries.
On behalf of Maryland’s 2020 Year of the Woman we will be celebrating State Rep. Addie Eckhardt who is joining us for her 5th straight dip.
It will be a great day to be in Oxford. Stop by the Oxford Firehouse Breakfast from 8-11 a.m., and then it’s a short stroll to the TAYC to make the dip. Come out and join the fun!Interested in putting a team together? Go on-line and register at www.freezinforareason.com
