Pete Lesher must have felt quite flattered last night as the mayor and other council members praised his character and qualifications for serving on the Easton Utilities board, which oversees this important publicly owned utility company. The mayor nominated Lesher to replace Buck Duncan, who has served on the commission for many years. However, despite the council’s desire to approve Lesher’s selection, there is concern that his dual role as a member of both the Talbot County Council and the town’s utilities board could create a conflict of interest.
Ultimately, the Council voted for more time and legal review to consider the matter.
Here are some highlights.

H.Thomas Heller says
First, who writes Frank Gunsallus’ script? Every meeting he’s reading from pre-written marerial, leading us to believe he’s somebody’s puppet.
Second, doesn’t the mayor think before doing these things? She didn’t believe this would be an ethical conflict? It’s like she has no clue.
I don’t know who’s worse here. The quality of leadership in this town is sad.
William S. Dudley, Ph.D. says
Pete Lesher is just the man for such public representative positions. He has shown his strong sense of duty in holding both jobs, separately, as well as in his day job at the CBMM. He is very dependable and sensible in considering difficult decisions; and his pleasant demeanor keeps conversations going when the going gets tough. I have seen him in action – he can handle this new assignment.
