Friends of the Talbot County Free Library will host its inaugural Online Auction May 1 – 8. Registration and a preview of items being auctioned is available at bit.ly/TCFL-AUCTION21.The major sponsor for the event is Shore United Bank.
According to Friends Council President Emilie Knud-Hansen, the group has gathered the most unique, eclectic, eccentric items ever auctioned. “We have everything from an original acrylic on canvas by local artist Mary Ford to a foursome with carts at Hog Neck,” said Knud-Hansen. “Individuals and businesses in our community have been so generous with items to support the library. We are especially grateful to Shore United Bank for their sponsorship which helped purchase the auction software and will allow 100 percent of proceeds to go directly to the library.”
Proceeds from the auction will help support the purchase of new books and furniture for the expansion and renovation of the St. Michaels Library which will include a larger community meeting room, added space for new library materials, two study rooms for small groups to meet and work, enlarged children’s and teen areas to allow for interactive learning and studying, and additional public computers.
In addition to the Spring Online Auction, the Friends of the Library raise money through their annual membership drive in May, book sales, and other fundraisers to help support programs like the annual Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival, summer and winter reading challenges, various STEAM programs, and much more. They also help with the purchase of library books and other materials.
