Integrace Bayleigh Chase announced that Director of Health and Fitness Susan Covey has recently earned her FallProofTM Balance and Mobility Program Instructor Certification, and is now offering the innovative program to independent living residents at Bayleigh Chase.
The first program of its kind in the U.S., the FallProof program has been proven to reduce the risk of falling in older adults who complete one or more sessions. It was developed by Debra. J. Rose, Ph.D., the director of the Center for Successful Aging at California State University, Fullerton.
To earn her certification, Covey completed a rigorous three-month training period to learn how to administer appropriate multi-dimensional assessment tests, understand the various body systems that contribute to balance and mobility and the age-related changes that occur in each of these systems, and address both internal and external risk factors strongly associated with falls. At the conclusion of her training, she completed both a written and practical examination.
As a certified instructor, Covey is offering the FallProof program to small groups of qualifying independent living residents at Bayleigh Chase. Sessions focus on five key areas to help participants improve posture, increase confidence and awareness of fall risk factors, improve walking ability and the ability to recover from loss of balance.
