The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is hosting a two-day Introduction to Rigging workshop on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 & 14, when participants will join CBMM Shipwright Apprentice Sam Hilgartner to learn more about the methodology, terminology, and the materials used in various rigs.
Participants will gain more in-depth knowledge of line handling, basic knots, and sail theory. Materials and tools will be provided, with participants are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch.
Hilgartner comes to CBMM from the Arques School of Traditional Boat Building in Sausalito, Cal., where he was an apprentice and instructor. He has worked with the National Park Service at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and on rigging jobs from New England to the Netherlands.
The workshop takes place from 10-4pm each day, with the cost set at $115 per person, with a 20% discount for CBMM members. Participation is limited, with pre-registration needed at cbmm.org/introtorigging. For more information, go to cbmm.org or call 410-745-2916.
