I’m a father of four young children, two of whom attend local public schools (and another two who aren’t out of diapers yet). I’m concerned, like many, about the overall health of our Talbot County Public School system, and it seems the recent pandemic has made things more problematic and challenging than ever.
Our youngest citizens need the proper tools and encouragement in the classroom. Teachers and staff need encouragement and abundant resources to help these children. We should also want strong and level-headed leadership, ready to look out for not only our children, but teachers and staff as well.
I feel it’s one of the duties of the citizenry to help lay a good and positive foundation for our children. For that, a strong public school system is a must. Getting to know the candidates and voting in your local school board elections is also one of the fundamental steps to achieve this. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone who is eligible to vote, to do so on November 8th.
On November 8th, we have a strong leader ready to join the Talbot County Public School Board of Education. Amy Dodson will be on the ballot for school board, in district 3. I encourage the public to support Amy Dodson, and give her your vote. Dodson is the wife of a local 24 year public school teacher, and a mother of three that all attend Easton Elementary School. Dodson also has personal experiences with children with special needs, an area she hopes to highlight as a member of that Board.
Early assessment for special needs students, retention of good faculty and staff, increased resources for student’s physical and mental health, and a greater focus on correctional discipline for a healthy learning environment are all issues very important to her.
For the good of our community, please vote on November 8th.
