After a fire there last December, the town has effectively condemned the Brookletts building. All the tenants have been told to move out, and the owner is in the process of determining its future. This building is not within the Easton Historic District. Still, it is a significant structure that harkens back to the industrial past of the area adjacent to the Rail Trail and inspires the architectural character of adjacent buildings, such as the Talbot Senior Center and the future Easton Crossing.
Should the owner sell the property, the new owners might choose to demolish this important piece of Easton’s history and architectural image. The town should seek to protect the building by extending the Historic District to include this property or find other means to preserve this piece of Easton’s history and architectural heritage.

You should take a look at what is happening to Mount Pleasant farm in St. Michaels. This house dated back to the 1700’s and had a two story canvas of the history of St. Michaels painted by John Moll.
