Movie buffs – remember the line in the movie Network – “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore”? Well, all the residents of Talbot County should be “mad as hell” – wishing we didn’t have to take it anymore. Take what you might ask?? Having to look at the unsightly trash that is filling the ditches along our beautiful country roads.
It is disgusting. It is sad. It is disgraceful and a stain on our beautiful countryside. And It can be fixed if only people would stop throwing trash out their vehicle windows and tie down trash and articles being hauled in the back of their trucks. It would also be helpful if property owners would take the time to pick up trash that has been thrown or blown onto their property.
The Talbot County Roads Department should also help keep our County beautiful. Its charter for road maintenance includes, “debris removal.”
Spring is here – how wonderful it would be to drive the country roads and be awed by the beauty of the flowering trees and flowers and not see our ditches filled with trash.

I have lived in the Easton Club (Oxford Road) for 15 plus years. Walk Rosie every day at 7:30 AM when not playing golf. I, and others, pick up trash every day on our walk. For the most part, The Easton Club is usually trash free within the boundaries. It does take a recurring effort wherever to keep the trash from building up. And it is really quite easy to accomplish.

I appreciate the reminder to keep our streets clean and pleasant. I really notice problem roads after a hard rain. I have several times notified Talbot Roads Department that select roads could use a clean-up, and they have always responded to my requests. There is a place on their website where one can notify them of a problem road. You can use the same site to notify the department of bad potholes.

Excellent…. private trash haulers play a big part in this…to many times I have been behind private trash haulers with no nets to keep trash from blowing out of the back of their trucks… I have seen refrigerator boxes laying in the ditch..how could you not have realized that it blew out of your truck…more emphasis needs to be put on this situation..

I pick up lots of trash mostly beer cans and plastic bottles from Tilghman to Claiborne as I ride my bike. The amount of trash on the shoulder and in the drainage is appalling not to mention the obvious drinking and driving. Every spring I request SHA to clean it up. The amount of trash being thrown out of cars and trucks in this area is mind boggling.
