Letter to Editor: When Did Antifa Become a Dirty Word?

November 17, 2025 by Letter to Editor

Share

My uncle’s medals; wasn’t he fighting nazism in WWII? Was he and my uncle at Guadalcanal, and my father in communications, Antifa, and wasn’t the country proud and grateful for their service? When did being anti nazi go out of style? When did the heroes of The Greatest Generation become the enemies of the present political environment? When did Antifa become a dirty word? Weren’t we all anti-fascist?

Antifa and proud of it.

Judith Nora Fauntleroy

Right on! Some of us are still AntiFa and damn proud to be speaking out!

  2. William Keppen says

    November 17, 2025 at 3:52 PM

    To answer the question, ”
when did Antifa become a dirty word?” It was when Trump and his republicon enablers convinced his MAGAt base that it was.

  3. Suzanne Todd says

    November 17, 2025 at 3:54 PM

    Your uncle was a hero.

  4. Wilson Dean says

Antifa is only a dirty word to Trump and his pathetic White Christian Nationalists. Antifa is an honorable title to all decent people.

  5. Dan Watson says

Exactly right Judy. Next NO-KINGS March, that’s the placard for me: ANTIFA, AND PROUD OF IT! My father was ANTIFA, gave his life at 23 opposing everything that Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, Emil Cove, JD Vance, Peter Thiel and the rest of those would-be autocrats are trying to shove down our throats. Uncles too, though they all came home.

Say what you will, Trump is a political genius, in the mold of others whose names live in infamy, whose souls rot in hell.

Dan Watson…same as my Dad, may he RIP

  6. James Wilson says

ANTIFA: The English word antifa is a loanword from the German Antifa, where it is a shortened form of the word antifaschistisch (“anti-fascist”) and a nickname of Antifaschistische Aktion (1932–1933), a short-lived group which inspired the wider antifa movement in Germany. The German word Antifa first appeared in 1930.

    Sounds good to me.

  7. John Fischer says

I don’t think you do your father or your uncles any favors by linking them to Antifa anarchists.

    • James Wilson says

      November 18, 2025 at 6:31 AM

Please read the origin and meaning of the word Antifa. Peace.

  8. Nigel Key says

Thank you for this, Judy. It speaks to the ignorance of much of the population about the meaning of Antifa and how certain ‘News’ shows distort history for their own agendas
