People use various factors for selecting a National leader:
Some focus on Physical Traits and Personality
OMG, he’s fat, bald, drinks WAY too much, smokes like a chimney, he’s snarky, cutting, acerbic…there’s no way that I’d ever vote for Winston Churchill. (Did I just compare Donald Trump to Winston Churchill? Blasphemy! He’s no Jack Kennedy.)
Some weigh in on Morality
What’s the big deal about a little sex with a barely legal victim behind closed doors in the White House? It doesn’t interfere with his ability to do the job. Bill’s my guy.
Some are concerned about Corruption
What’s wrong with trying to help one’s kid get along in life? What $3.5 million dollar check from the wife of a former mayor of Moscow? Malarkey! Never happened!…oh, it did? Who cares, nobody’s watching, you can’t prove anything. I’m for Joe.
Some reflect on Treason
Do you know what creativity it takes to be personally responsible for the biggest coup attempt in American history. And to get away with it for over 4 years. That’s the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that I’m looking for. Hillary’s my candidate.
Others analyze Policy and Performance
Say what I’ll do, do what I say. President Trump’s record of achievement in his first term is office is unparalleled. You’ve seen the list.
A list that you may not have seen is the platform of the Democrat party. Here’s some highlights (TGC, August 19, 2020):
Opposes all federal and state laws that prohibit or restrict abortion.
Supports restoring taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.
Supports the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funds from being used for abortion services.
Supports rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement.
Supports California’s statutory authority under the Clean Air Act to set its own emissions standards for cars and trucks.
Supports banning new oil and gas permitting on public lands and waters.
Supports eliminating the use of cash bail.
Opposes imprisonment for failing to pay fines or fees.
Opposes having driver’s licenses revoked for unpaid tickets or simple violations.
Supports allowing judges to determine appropriate sentences.
Supports ending the use of private prisons and private detention centers.
Supports removing the Confederate battle flag and statues of Confederate leaders from public properties.
Supports making Juneteenth (June 19th) a federal holiday.
Supports empowering local governments to “combat gentrification.”
Supports ending the “War on Drugs.”
Opposes imprisonment solely because of drug use.
Supports banning for-profit private charter businesses from receiving federal funding.
Opposes private school vouchers and allowing public-funded scholarships to be used at private schools.
Supports making community colleges and trade schools tuition-free for all students, including DACA recipients.
Supports forgiving all undergraduate tuition-related federal student debt for those earning less than $125,000.
Supports the termination of the Trump administration’s travel and immigration bans.
That platform will scare your pants off. Speaking of pants, for those using Physical Traits and Personality to select a leader, did you see what Donald Trump wore to the golf course the other day?…scandalous! I’d never vote for a guy who dresses so poorly.

William Keppen says
I think Mr. Carns has done great injustice to Democrats and to the Democrat party. Here is a link to the Democrat Party Platform. You can read what it actually says, rather than Mr. Carns spin: https://www.demconvention.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/2020-07-31-Democratic-Party-Platform-For-Distribution.pdf
Tom Alspach says
Excuse me William, but it is the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party platform.
As opposed to the Republican Party, now more accurately the Trumplican Party, whose platform, literally, is “We enthusiastically support President Trump’s America First agenda.” That’s it; no principles. Just a cult of personality. And what a personality.
