Letter to Editor: Is the Talbot Integrity Project a Political Action Committee? Do Candidates Stand Behind It? Delmarva Review: The White Egrets by Richard Tillinghast

We have already voted for those candidates that have promised to reset Lakeside. The project should be stopped entirely unless you want a community where access to good schools and health care will suffer immeasurably. The time to vote is NOW. The project t is all about GREED and not in the best interests of our citizens

Thank you for running this interview with Dan Watson. His efforts will give Talbot County a shot at “resetting” the Lakeside project, allowing the multiple shortcomings of the project to be addressed and dealt with properly.

    Well said.
Dan Watson’s perceptive, balanced and sustained effort to provide interested citizens with facts and fair perspectives is a public service we should be grateful for.
An effective way to express appreciation and recognize the value of TIP is to vote for an improved Talbot County Council that will act legally.

Dan has done a great job here to distill 20 plus years into a narrative that explains how this development was able to move forward….illegally. If the developer never received proper approval for the houses they have started building, than those costs are on them. I’m wondering how our County Attorney could have missed these crucial steps in the approval process?

Perhaps the County Council majority (Pack, Callaghan and Divilio) pressured the County Attorney to ignore these crucial steps or perhaps, being kind, with so much time having passed, they had no idea what had been approved or not approved.

Either way, I fault the legal team for the County Council for not understanding the process and throwing a flag. The county tax payer deserves better than the actions we have seen from the existing County Council and their hired guns on the legal team.

Thank you Mr. Watson for condensing this twenty year saga, and all the personal effort you have put into the research necessary for this to become a critical issue for Talbot County. This massive development will have more negative impact on our County than any other single issue.

  8. Richard Morris says

    October 28, 2022 at 12:48 PM

This “reset” is just flat-out wrong. I have had over 50 years of experience as a Professional Engineer in design of housing projects, as well as several years of reviewing projects as a county government official. I have no involvement in this project, nor even know the developers or who they are.
However, once approvals are granted by government, and businesspeople have invested tremendous amounts of money in a project and infrastructure, to rescind that approval (unless there was fraud or illegal activity involved) would be unconscionable. No government can operate that way and expect anyone to invest in businesses to create a vibrant economy and jobs. No one can do business in that environment. It would destroy the economy.
If you believe the approvals were illegal, then you should file suit or report your evidence to the proper authorities for investigation and possible prosecution. But to just have a new election and have all previous legally granted approvals rescinded would create chaos and be blatantly unfair! Candidates that support this should be rejected. I will vote against all of them.

Mr. Morris is mistaken. A governing body (in this case, Talbot County Council) always has the ability to consider anew whether an earlier decision was procured through mistake, fraud, or other impropriety. If a business entity determines to pursue an action with knowledge that its authorization was flawed, it does so at its peril.
