Ouvert Gallery of St. Michaels will be celebrating it’s one year anniversary during the entire month of December. Festivities begin on December 5 for Midnight Madness and will include live music, artist demos, book signings, and treats such as wine,raw oysters and the musical talent of Sam Pugh. The entire gallery will exhibit perfect, one of a kind holiday gifts for any budget. There will also be a drawing for an original Oyster Plate by artist David Crane valued at $175; customer’s names are entered for each purchase made. The drawing will be held at 3pm on Christmas Eve.
“We are very excited,” says co-owner Jen Wagner. “We have had a phenomenal, whirlwind year and are ready to celebrate.” The gallery, which features an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional works, has become a hub for community events and has gained a reputation as a must-see destination. “Every piece at the gallery is one of a kind. Giving the gift of art not only supports local small businesses but is uniquely special to the person who is receiving the gift.”
Nationally renowned artist Mama Girl, whose work is on permanent exhibition at the American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore and the American Folk Art Museum in New York will be at the gallery for Midnight Madness. She will be demoing her paper mâché creations and showing her newest works of art. You can meet Mama Girl between 2pm and 4pm or 6pm and 8pm that evening. Mama Girl is known for her whimsical sculptures and wall hangings. There will also be the opportunity to purchase a spot in an upcoming spring workshop with her at Ouvert. Gift certificates will be available for gift giving.
Hazel and John Jopling will be signing copies of their children’s book “TR” The Tundra Swan’s Amazing Journey during Midnight Madness and painter Michael Augey will talk about his black light reflective paintings. Artist Garnette Hines, who specializes in Fairy Garden accessories will offer a special from 6pm to midnight on a “Fairy Relocation Kit” with a purchase of six or more of her pieces. The kit will include a complimentary bottle of pixie dust, fairy relocation letter, and gift boxing. She will also return the following weekend for Christmas in St. Michaels to offer the same special from 11am to 1pm. Also present to demo and discuss their work that day will be painters Mary Ellen Mabe and Susan Horsey.
Wagner encourages people to stop by all month long. “We will be open 7 days a week for the month of December from 11am to 7pm.” The later evening hours will allow for after work holiday shopping. Shoppers are also invited to create a “wish list” to help their loved ones decide on gift purchases. Wagner will be offering 20% off of her popular mosaics class for the month of December, with gift certificates available.
