Recovery for Shore (RFS), an hoc network of individuals and organizations providing awareness of recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as support and encouragement for those on the journey of recovery, announces a number of events during the September observation of National Recovery Awareness Month.
Dovetailing with initiatives planned by Talbot Goes Purple (TGP), Recovery for Shore and Mariah’s Mission Fund will hold a Walk of Solidarity immediately following the kick-off of TGP on Wednesday, September 5, 7:30 p.m., at the Talbot County Courthouse on North Washington Street in Easton. RFS will lead a brief walk around the block in front of the Courthouse (Washington, Goldsborough, Harrison and Dover Streets) and the public is invited to participate.
“We think this is a great opportunity to show our enthusiasm for recovery awareness and we hope a lot of people will join us,” says Sharon Dundon, RFS coordinator and program specialist, Shore Behavioral Health Substance Disorders Program for UM Shore Regional Health.
On Saturday, September 22, RFS will sponsor a free ice cream social prior to the “Alive at Five” service at Christ Church Easton at the corner of South and Harrison streets. Weather permitting, the social will be held on the lawn of the church beginning at 3:30 p.m.; in the event of rain, the ice cream will be served in the church parish hall. Several recovery and prevention organizations will have tables at the social providing information about services available in the community to assist individuals and families dealing with substance abuse and addiction.
“The ice cream social is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate recovery and share information and ideas with community members,” says Dundon. “We hope that individuals and family members who are pursuing recovery in our community will come out and celebrate with us and with the Christ Church parish that has been so supportive of the recovery movement.”
RFS members also will be on hand at two Talbot Goes Purple events featuring as follows: Friday, Tuesday, September 25, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Easton High School; and Wednesday, September 26, 5:30-6:30 p.m., St. Michaels High School.
