The Retreat House at Hillsboro starts the fall season with a friendly Book Group that will meet on the third Monday of each month, beginning September 18. Book selections will be made by the group. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag dinner. There is no charge to attend, but donations will be gladly accepted. Two workshops take place in September. On Monday, September 25 at 9:00 a.m – 12:00 noon “Taking A Walk With Your Soul – A Sacred Labyrinth Journey” takes place on at the Chartres-style labyrinth located on the grounds of Retreat House. Following the guided meditative walk will be a journaling session and discussion led by Wendy Steeves, Spiritual Director and “contemplative missionary.” A light breakfast and lunch will be available and a suggested donation of $20 would be appreciated. “Cultivating a Spiritual Heart: A Day of Prayer with Patience Robbins” is planned for Thursday, September 28 at 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The day will include guided meditations, journaling sharing and periods of silence. Participants will learn new practices to increase gratitude, compassion and joy in their daily lives. Patience Robbins is a Spiritual Director who has led programs for more than 20 years at Shalem Institute (www.shalem.org.) Light breakfast and lunch are included and a suggested donation of $40 per person would be appreciated.
All are welcome at Retreat House workshops and retreats, even if one is unable to make a donation. Weekly events at the Retreat House include Meditation Mondays, a silent meditation gathering at 5:45 – 6:15 p.m., Yoga class led by Kathleen O’Brien on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. and AA meetings on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5:30 p.m. For more information, contact Francie Thayer, Director, at [email protected], or call (410) 364-7042.
Located on the grounds of St. Paul’s Church at 22005 Church Street, Hillsboro, Maryland, the Retreat House is open for group retreats and meetings, individual hermitages, meditation and any who seek a spiritual connection.
