The Rotary Club of Easton, Maryland installed its 2020-2021 Officers and Directors at a filmed, virtual ceremony on June 22nd at the Bay Street Ponds. The recorded oaths of office were then shared during the Club’s virtual Change of Officers Celebration on Thursday, June 25th.
Members gathered informally with their families and in small groups with fellow members to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2019-2020 Rotary Year and honor outgoing President Patrick Fitzgerald.
“The 2019-2020 Rotary Year did not end in a way that anyone would have expected,” said Patrick Fitzgerald, Immediate Past President. “Despite COVID-19, our members demonstrated that Rotarians are people of action and step up when called upon to support their community. While we have been unable to continue meetings in person, the work of our Club has continued.”
Highlights from the 2019-2020 Rotary Year included packing 20,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger in partnership with area youth and other organizations, a successful 9th Annual Flags for Heroes fundraising event and display, continued support of Meals on Wheels, awarding scholarships to high school seniors and beginning plans for the Club’s Centennial projects and events in 2021.
As the Club thanked Fitzgerald for his service, it also welcomed its new President, John Flohr, and his leadership team. Flohr has been a member of the Easton Rotary Club since 2009 and initiated the Club’s annual Flags for Heroes event.
“Being President of our Club and guiding us to our 100 years anniversary is an honor. This will be a challenging year because of COVID-19 and social distancing, but I believe it will also be one of our greatest years,” said Flohr. “Our members are dedicated and creative, and we will continue to live and work by our motto, ‘service above self’.”
Joining John Flohr on the Club’s 2020-2021 Board of Directors are Reza Jafari, President-Elect; Kelly Griffith, Program Chair; Andrew Walsworth, Treasurer; George Hatcher, Secretary; Megan Miller, Club Service Chair; Terri Charest, Personnel Service Chair; Rosemary Fasolo, Community Service Chair; Patti Campen, International Service Chair; Casey Baynard, Vocational Service Chair; and Patrick Fitzgerald, Immediate Past President.
