Along with summer swimming comes ShoreRivers Bacteria Monitoring season has officially started. This week’s results were a big bummer.

Trappe Landing at the head of La Trappe Creek off the Choptank has a boat launching ramp but no place to swim that I am aware off. The place where people swim is the sand spit at the entrance to La Trappe Creek. During the summer, in spite of No Trespassing signs, boats are anchored there and people are swimming, water skiing and riding PWCs, etc. That seems to be the place that should be monitored for swimming. (Of course, Trappe Landing should be monitored for other reasons.)

Really appreciate Shore Rivers for their work in letting us know if its safe to swim. Why doesn’t the county do this service? This seems central to any bayside county or regional body, for tourism, health, economy and simple pride in how we steward this gift of the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers
