Trappe Landing at the head of La Trappe Creek off the Choptank has a boat launching ramp but no place to swim that I am aware off. The place where people swim is the sand spit at the entrance to La Trappe Creek. During the summer, in spite of No Trespassing signs, boats are anchored there and people are swimming, water skiing and riding PWCs, etc. That seems to be the place that should be monitored for swimming. (Of course, Trappe Landing should be monitored for other reasons.)

Thanks to ShoreRivers and all involved in the oyster project near Claiborne. It was amazing to see that huge pile of oysters go into the water. Let’s hope the oysters will soon be busy cleaning the water.

There is a fair amount of boating and skiing weekend activity on Tuckahoe Creek. What’s the chance that the monitoring program can include that area?

To those who ask “why aren’t more places being monitored”, my guess is that Shore Rivers and others who take the samples and have them analyzed are just resource (manpower/womanpower) limited. They can only do so much with the time they have.

Really appreciate Shore Rivers for their work in letting us know if its safe to swim. Why doesn’t the county do this service? This seems central to any bayside county or regional body, for tourism, health, economy and simple pride in how we steward this gift of the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers

[…] healthy? Should we expect all who enter Bay waters to first check ShoreRivers Safe to Swim Weekend Report before dipping a toe (probably a good idea)? And I wonder if the Health Department knows of […]
