Spy COVID-19 Daily Update Feb. 19

The Spy obtains information for the above chart between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Statewide data is updated about 10 a.m. each day; counties may update data throughout the day until 5 p.m. Johns Hopkins updates its data throughout the day.

Key points for today

• Talbot County COVID-19 cases increased by 12 to 2,185.

• The county’s 7-day average positivity rate is 5.73%.

• The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maryland is now at 374,974, an increase of 1,008 in the last 24 hours.

• In the last 24 hours, 16 people died as a result of COVID-19, bringing the state’s total to 7,495.

• The state’s 7-day positivity rate is 4.12% (-0.01 percentage points from yesterday).

Vaccinations

• The first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been given to 11.69% of Marylanders and 18.18% of Talbot County residents; second dose rates are 5.06% and 7.05% respectively.

Positivity Rate

• The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Maryland dropped by 32 over the last 24 hours.

• There currently are 1,016 people hospitalized — 744 in acute care and 272 in intensive care.

    Occupancy percent or total COVID hospitalizations would be more useful. Even a footnote with the total hospital beds available would help. As COVID decreases beds will still be used for other cases so the number hospitalized is not really COVID related. Percent occupied would tell us whether we are stretching capacity. Number of COVID patients would measure how we are doing in the fight.
