St. Michaels Community Center (SMCC) Board Chair Lori F. Morris announced today that the SMCC Board has accepted the resignation of its Executive Director, Patrick Rofe.
“Patrick has been doing his best to be in two places at once,” Morris noted, “running SMCC while caring for his aging parents halfway across the country.” She continued, “Not even Patrick, whose energy and vision have meant so much to SMCC, can pull off that trick.”
“We fully understand his decision to relocate to be closer to his parents, and we wish him continued success,” Morris concluded.
“Patrick is leaving an organization that is stronger in every way than the one he joined three years ago,” Morris said. “With Patrick at the helm, we have seen tremendous progress on every front, including:
• “Renovating SMMC’s building in downtown St. Michaels, creating a modern community hub;
• “Establishing a partnership with Talbot County Health Department for healthy living classes;
• “Expanding our Community Café and Community Pantry to serve more people than ever before;
• “Introducing STEM-focused youth programs for middle school students;
• “Welcoming hundreds of new donors and supporters; and
• Forging new partnerships with local nonprofits and businesses.”
In his letter of resignation, Rofe reflected on that progress, saying, “These accomplishments are a testament to the collective efforts of our dedicated staff, the strategic guidance of our board of directors, the tireless work of our volunteers, and the unwavering support of our community. The board’s commitment to good governance and strategic oversight has been instrumental in moving the organization forward during this period of growth and change.”
On a personal level, Rofe added, “While I am sad to leave this remarkable organization and community, I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of SMCC’s journey. Thank you for your understanding of my need to prioritize my family at this time.” Rofe will leave SMCC at the end of September. SMCC is preparing to launch a search for his replacement. I’ve known Rofe through his years at St Michaels Community Center. I found out through my spouse that this announcement was inevitable but reality us most times hard for all involved. All community members should be proud of Rofe’s accomlishments and how he has worked with community members to make St Michaels better through his time with us. We need to help the board in it’s selection process to find a replacement who will continue to work with the community to continue the previous time and the future worthwhile. The need for a new director is real. We all are part of the process
