The Church of the Holy Trinity is excited to present three extremely talented local musicians in concert. Still Waters Trio presents Miniatures on January 11, 2026 at 3:00 pm at The Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford MD. The program features works of Frank Bridge, Mel Bonis, Phillippe Gaubert and William Grant-Still.
Still Waters Trio consists of three professional musicians all living on the Eastern Shore. Flutist Ashley Watkins is a native of Cambridge. She teaches and performs locally with notable recent performances at The Reach Kennedy Center, The Avalon, Howard University, Salisbury University and the Mainstay in Rock Hall. Pianist Veronica Tomanek is a vocal coach and staff pianist at Salisbury University and adjunct faculty at Wor-Wic Community College. She is the music director at St Alban’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury and the founder and artistic director of chamber choir Vox Concordia. Cellist Denise Nathanson is the former principal cellist for the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and former adjunct faculty at Hood College. She performs chamber music frequently throughout the Eastern Shore at many different venues. Together the Trio is committed to performing and promoting compositions by women and people of color.
The inspiration for Miniatures came from several works, including a set of 9 charming pieces by Frank Bridge (1879 – 1941) which he called Miniatures. Also on the program is a 3 movement work, Suite Oriental, by Mel Bonis (1858-1937) who was a prolific French female composer. Phillippe Gaubert (1879-1941) wrote his Aquarelles (Watercolors) to depict a watercolor painting in sound. American composer William Grant Still (1895-1978) wrote 5 pieces called Miniatures. Three of the movements come from American folk tunes – Ride An Old Paint, Jesus is a Rock in the Weary Land and The Frog Went a Courtin. The other 2 movements use a folk song from Mexico (Adolorido) and Peru (Yarvi).
There will be a free will offering to help defray artist expenses. No tickets are required. For questions or in case of inclement weather, please call the church office 410-226-5134.
