Is There Honor Beyond Honesty?
America at its best is not intensely ideological. Today is not the best of times. Too many in the political and communication’s elite shape their messages or stories to fit their political intentions—knowledge is secondary.
Michael Bloomberg’s address to the graduates of Rice University speaks to a code of conduct that is needed well beyond the campuses of Rice:
Al Sikes is the former Chair of the Federal Communications Commission under George H.W. Bush. Al recently published Culture Leads Leaders Follow published by Koehler Books.
Jeffrey Staley says
Al,
Thanks for passing along Michael Bloomberg’s speech. Imagine how different things would be in Washington if he were President.
I think it will take many years for America to recover from this period of denying, ignoring or being ignorant of facts we should be hungrily seeking out to help us move productively into the future with sound policies and practices. It will take time to unwind decisions being taken today that have no factual underpinnings.
Carl Widell says
Thank you Al. Mayor Bloomberg’s speech was essential reading.
