Talbot County Department of Social Services continues to accept applications for the county’s CARES Individual Assistance Program. These funds are available to anyone living in Talbot County who has experienced a loss of wages due to the COVID-19 public health emergency and needs help with rent, mortgage, or other housing costs, utilities, or other emergency needs. The Department also provides emergency Cash Assistance and Food Assistance to eligible individuals and families.
Angela Lane, Talbot County Director of Finance, has been working with Linda Webb, Director of the Talbot County Department of Social Services, whose agency is processing the applications for Talbot County. “It is important for individuals to know that the CARES Individual Assistance Program is not income-based. Anyone who lives in Talbot County is eligible for these funds if they have experienced a loss of wages due to the pandemic and needs help with housing or utility costs or other emergencies. The CARES funds have helped 42 families impacted by the pandemic meet their obligations. In addition, our staff can also suggest support programs for which the individual or family may be eligible as additional services,” states Webb.
On average, the Department assists more than 2,300 Talbot County families each month with Food Assistance and numerous individuals with Emergency Cash Assistance. Applications for all three programs are available by calling 410- 770-4848. Press 1 for Services in Spanish. Press 4 for Emergency Cash Assistance. Press 5 for CARES Individual Assistance. Press 6 for Food Assistance. Individuals can also visit talbotcovid19.org for information about how to apply.
