Talbot County Department of Social Services Celebrates Youth Resource Parents

September 17, 2024 by The Spy Desk

The Talbot County Department of Social Services recently co-sponsored two family events to celebrate the contributions of resource parents caring for youth in out-of-home care.

Resource Parents and their families caught a minor league Delmarva Shorebirds game in Salisbury, including complimentary tickets and “Bird Bucks” to spend on food, drinks, games and souvenirs.

All Resource Parents on the Mid-Shore were invited to an annual favorite — a crab feast at the Talbot Agriculture and Education Center in Easton. Families and social services staff from Caroline, Dorchester, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties attended the appreciation event. The crab feast had a caricature artist, a food truck, raffle prizes, and a BINGO game where families had the opportunity to share experiences and make connections with other resource parents across the region.

“These are always favorite events for our resource families and the Departments of Social Services staff,” said Paris Quillet, special projects coordinator for the Talbot County Department of Social Services. “It’s become a tradition on the Mid-Shore, and both events are great opportunities to thank families who do so much for us throughout the year,”

Resource Parents and Adoptive Parents have a huge impact in the lives of young people in our communities. The youth of Talbot County, including infants and older teens, need more Resource Parents and Adoptive Parents to help.

To learn more about becoming an Adoptive or Resource Parent call the Talbot County Department of Social Services at 410-820-7371 or visit www.midshoreresourceparents.com.
