In 1885 Easton became the site of an annual Talbot County Fair that was acknowledged as one of the best in Maryland. Earlier Fairs had been staged at “Hole-in-the -Wall” before being moved to Idlewild Park south of Easton. The Talbot County Fair Association built a racetrack, grandstand, and other buildings where the two Talbot County Railroads lines intersected. The four day fair was held in August and 4,000 people attended daily. This photo was recently found in the Lowndes/ Johnson families photo album located in the archive section of the Talbot Historical Society’s Collections vault. The photo is of Miss Marnie Lowndes with her friends in 1898 enjoying oysters“ in any style” under the grandstand at Idlewild Fairgrounds. Facts: “ Easton Album” by Norman Harrington 1986.
