John Graham McCrorey b.1860 d.1923 opened his first store in Scottsdale, Pennsylvania in 1882. He was know for his thrifty nature and legally dropped the “e” in his name McCrorey to save money on sign lettering! There were 244 J. G. McCrory stores in 1933 when the company declared bankruptcy but it later resumed business as McCrory’s Stores and continued to operate until 2002! After the fire the McCrory’s store was rebuilt with a new facade. Do you remember McCrory’s on Washington Street in Easton, Maryland?

I Loved that store and Trader’s next to it. I also remember Read’s and eating at their lunch counter when I was working at “Easton National Bank”…my first Real job. Their tuna salad was Awesome!! Delia Denny was just a few years ahead of me at the bank, (she was Delia Spencer then and just beginning her long-time Successful banking career.
And on the corner across from Thompson Park was the building that housed Many different businesses. Young Co-Eds, Harrison’s Flowers, a department store whose name I can’t remember. I Do remember the bills/receipts being put into a “cup” that was sent to the 2nd floor on a wire. And So Many other businesses at that location.
How about The Young Men’s Shop that Bill Denny ran on the corner across from Trader’s…now “Pragerland”??
