When steamboats and railroads brought many visitors to vacation in Talbot County in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s some locals opened their homes to paying customers for boarding. Royal Oak, Maryland’s Oak Hall Farm was purchased by Fred Harper in 1884 and he opened it to guests and renamed it the Pasadena Inn in 1901. Some of Mr. Harper’s family had traveled to California at that time and sent back letters raving about beautiful Pasadena, California explaining the rename’s origin! This property is now Royal Oak’s The Oaks! Facts: “ Talbot County, A History” by Dickson J. Preston 1983. Photo from the Talbot Historical Society’s C. C. Harris Collection.
