Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kelly L. Griffith and the Talbot County Board of Education have announced new appointments to the Curriculum Team effective July 1, 2020 to fill positions that will become vacant due to retirements and resignations.
Mrs. Shannon Beatty
Mrs. Shannon Beatty has been named Curriculum Supervisor for English Language Arts (ELA) grades 6-12. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language/Literature from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Education, Differentiated Instruction from La Salle University. She holds State of Maryland certificates for Advanced Professional Teaching for grades 7-12 and Administrator I.
Mrs. Beatty taught secondary English at St. Michaels Middle High School from 2008 to 2018. She served as a New Teacher Mentor, SAT Coordinator, State Assessment Coach, and Yearbook and Junior Class/Prom Advisor. Since 2018 she has been a Secondary Literacy Coach, planning and conducting professional learning for teachers, assisting in the implementation of a new middle school ELA curriculum, leading improvement and literacy teams and co-teaching literary lessons across content areas. A member of the Maryland Education Association and the National Council of Teachers of English, Mrs. Beatty resides in Royal Oak with her husband Seth and three sons.
Dr. Rachel Strang
Dr. Rachel Strang has been appointed Curriculum Supervisor for Social Studies grades K-12. A graduate of Easton High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Virginia Tech and a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University. She holds an Advanced Professional Certificate in Maryland with endorsements for Secondary Social Studies, Middle School Mathematics and Administrator I. From 2012 – 2018 she taught various courses within the secondary Social Studies department.
Since 2018, Dr. Strang has served as literacy coach at Easton Middle School, designing literacy and skill focused curriculum for English, Science and Social Studies and developing and leading professional learning. She has served as Chair of the County Grading Policy and School Based Literacy Teams. Dr. Strang was an Adjunct Professor at Salisbury University in 2105-2016 and a Master Teacher for the Maryland State Department of Education, College and Career Readiness Conferences in 2014 and 2015. She resides in Easton with her husband Brice and their three dogs.
“Mrs. Beatty and Dr. Strang have demonstrated exceptional innovation and leadership in their content areas,” said Dr. Helga Einhorn, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “I am thrilled that these accomplished educators are joining the Curriculum Team.”
