For the past twenty years, the Rotary Club of St. Michaels honors their tradition of support for the Talbot Hospice. The individual club members donate supplies that add up to approximately twenty-five hundred dollars. Buying the much needed supplies for Hospice House demonstrates the heart of the club and the value of the care given at Hospice.
When Bob Holden joined the club he said they had been doing it for over three years. He saw the chair at that time, Bud Keiser’s commitment to the program and Bob promised to keep it going as long as possible. Twenty years later, both Bob and Bud were there unloading the multiple carloads of goods they collected in an effort to ease the bottom line for Hospice House. Bob said, “Hospice was the right recipient at the right time, and it’s still the right place and right time!” Bud chimed in, “He said it.”
The great comradery between the club members was visible as they loaded and stacked the enormous amount of supplies. Kara Hope, clinical director of Hospice House, with her sleeves rolled up, welcomed the stock of goods. The feeling of gratitude year after year from both organizations is a main reason the commitment continues. A true twenty-year friendship between organizations remains intact.
The current President of the St. Michaels Rotary Club, Debbie Collison commented, “The club saw an opportunity to serve the community in a more practical way. Hopefully these supplies will sustain them for a year and cut down on the operating costs so funds can be moved to more personal care.”
