This year’s event theme was Lights, Camera, Relay…it’s all about Hollywood. The Talbot Bankers team selected the movie ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ and put a lot of energy and spirit into their site, decorations, costumes and vehicle. “Relay for Life is something special to all of us on the team,” said Michael Loftus, Shore Bancshares Training Manager. “Each of us have been touched by cancer in some way and this is our way of raising awareness and remembering those we’ve lost and honoring those that have won the battle. As Team Captain, I couldn’t be more proud of our accomplishments this year. We gained some new team members, raised the highest amount of money we have in the last 5 years and have renewed energy.”
A survivor luncheon was also held following with an opening ceremony. Survivors made the first lap to begin the relay event. Various games and activities were enjoyed by everyone throughout the day culminating with an extremely moving luminaria ceremony at dusk. Over a 400 lighted luminaria bags glowed in the dark in honor or memory of someone special.
